CMI: A new report into unemployment carried out by the Prince’s Trust has revealed the damage a lack of career development opportunities can have on a young person. The Youth Index 2014 revealed that a fifth of young people without a job in the UK feel like they have “nothing to live for”. It also indicated that 40 per cent of long-term unemployed 16-25-year-old have symptoms of mental illness, including suicidal thoughts, panic attacks and self-loathing. The news comes following figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) that indicated youth unemployment is a growing concern in the UK, with just 50.6 per cent of this group in employment.
