Business HR Solutions – “New powers have been announced which aim to stop parents avoiding paying child maintenance that they owe. At the moment, deductions from bank or building society accounts to cover arrears if child maintenance payments can currently only be made from an account held solely by an individual, and not from a joint account held with a partner.
New laws, which will come into effect early next year, will allow deductions to be made from joint accounts. Safeguards will be in place to protect the other holder of the joint account. The changes are expected to come into effect early in 2018 and will apply in England, Scotland and Wales”.
